Splitting PDFs without losing structure
Splitting is the right tool when you need to extract one chapter from an ebook, send only the signature page of a 90-page contract, or break a multi-invoice statement into individual files for accounting. It is the wrong tool for redacting — pages you remove still exist in the original; only the new file is shorter.
A few things to know before you split: bookmarks pointing into removed pages become dangling links in the new file, table-of-contents entries do not automatically renumber, and form fields keep their original tab order. If your source PDF was created by scanning, every page is an image — splitting works fine but you may want to OCR the result afterwards so the extract is searchable. For very large source files (200+ pages), splitting in your browser is faster than uploading to a server because the file never leaves your machine — there is no upload time, just the parse and re-write.
